Little Mountaineer

Charlie (5) from Lee Brigg Infant & Nursery School climbs the equivalent height of Mount Everest!

After climbing Holyhead Mountain on his fifth birthday, Charlie caught the mountaineering bug, and has since been unstoppable.  He is now on the verge of a new world record!

It was initially hoped that he would be able to complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks before turning five-and-a-half, however he demolished this target in just three months.  Two of Charlie’s most impressive conquests are 2,300ft Pen-y-ghent and Scafell Pike in the Lake District - the tallest mountain in England at more than 3,000ft.

Charlie has climbed a total of 25 mountains since he turned five in April 2019, and has raised money to support his school to improve the outdoor area.

His parents, Mr and Mrs Batham have nominated Charlie for a Guinness World Record, as the youngest person to climb the equivalent height of Mount Everest

Charlie said: "I love climbing the mountains and the hills because I get to be with my dad and sometimes my mum as well.  I'm really happy that I might get a world record - I'd love to do it all over again!"
