Hub Board Representative
I am currently Chair of Governors at Normanton Junior Academy and have previous experience as a governor at Normanton Common Primary Academy, my daughter’s primary and secondary schools, and also as a school staff governor.
My professional background is in the field of education. I worked in schools for 34 years becoming an Assistant Headteacher in a large, successful comprehensive school in Wakefield where I was responsible for the training and development of the school workforce (both teaching and support staff colleagues) both within my own school and with our partner primary schools.
During this time I was able to extend my professional knowledge, understanding and experience through undertaking part time secondment roles at a local level with the Wakefield Council’s School Improvement team, and at a national level with the General Teaching Council’s Teacher Learning Academy. This work entailed organising and delivering training sessions for school based colleagues within the Wakefield area and also across various regions in the country.
From September 2011 to July 2014 I led the Wakefield Partnership for Initial Teacher Training as the partnership manager during which time the partnership gained a national reputation for its high quality provision for training teachers of the future which was recognised by Ofsted inspectors with the award of an ‘Outstanding’ judgement.
I retired from full time working in the summer of 2014 but I have maintained an interest in education working on a part time basis for Leeds Trinity University as a link tutor for their teacher training programme, and also undertaking a role as an external examiner for other teacher training partnerships both locally and across the north of England.
Outside of education, despite retiring from playing myself, I have maintained a keen interest in a wide range of sports. I am a season ticket holder at both Leeds United and Castleford Tigers. I enjoy listening to music of all genres and play the drums and guitar. I also enjoy travelling and visiting other areas of Britain and countries abroad, and enjoy spending time in the garden.
I am struck by a real desire from everyone involved with the Waterton Academy Trust to providing high standards of education and care for each and every pupil in order to support them to make the most of their individual and collective talents and abilities.
