Amanda Wilson
School Improvement Officer - Maths
I have been lucky enough to work in primary education since 1991, initially in Berkshire before moving to Yorkshire over 20 years ago. For most of my career, I have been a leader of Maths, developing practice and improving outcomes for all children. As a class teacher, I have worked with every age group from Nursery to Year 6. I am an experienced Senior Leader, having worked in the roles of Vice Principal and Acting Head across different schools. One aspect of leadership which I am particularly passionate about is promoting the collaboration and sharing of best practice with others, including the coaching and mentoring of Early Career Teachers. As a Maths Lead, I have been involved in various local and national projects, including being filmed as part of the National Numeracy Strategy training videos and, more recently, completing Maths Specialist Teacher (MaST) training at Sheffield Hallam University.
Since joining Waterton Academy Trust in 2018, I have worked closely with the Yorkshire and Humber Maths Hub, becoming a Primary Mastery Specialist in 2020, now leading Teaching for Mastery Workgroups. I believe that all children are capable of achieving in mathematics and that acquiring a deep and adaptable understanding of the subject is crucial in securing their long term success. High-quality teaching is the key to this and I feel fortunate to be part of a committed team across Waterton, who are motivated to provide the best possible education for our learners. As professionals, we are all constantly learning and trying to improve our practice because we want to be the very best we can.
